Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026 · Effective immediately

The short version: your health data stays on your device. We don't collect it, sell it, or store it on our servers. Full details below.

1. Who We Are

Mend is a personal post-surgical recovery tracking application. References to "Mend," "we," "us," or "our" in this policy refer to the Mend application and its operator.

2. What Data Mend Collects

Mend is designed with a local-first architecture. The following data is stored exclusively on your device using your browser's localStorage:

None of this data is transmitted to or stored on Mend's servers. It lives only in your browser on your device. If you clear your browser data, your Mend data is deleted permanently.

3. AI Features and Third-Party Data Processing

Mend offers optional AI-powered features (daily check-in, caregiver briefing, appointment summary, and PDF parsing) powered by Claude, an AI model developed by Anthropic, PBC.

When you use these features, the following data is transmitted to Anthropic's API:

This data is processed by Anthropic to generate a response and is subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy. We recommend not including your full legal name, insurance information, or Social Security number in your notes or discharge summary if privacy is a concern.

These AI features are optional. All core Mend functionality — task tracking, medication logging, timer, pain tracker, photo log — works fully without using them.

4. Discharge PDF Uploads

If you upload a discharge summary PDF, it is sent directly to Anthropic's API for parsing and is not stored by Mend. The PDF is used solely to extract your medication and therapy protocol. Once parsed, the file is not retained anywhere in the Mend system.

5. Browser Notifications

If you enable medication reminders, Mend requests permission to send browser notifications. Notification scheduling happens entirely within your browser — no data is sent to a server to schedule reminders. You can revoke notification permission at any time in your browser settings.

6. Analytics and Tracking

Mend does not use analytics tools, tracking pixels, advertising networks, or cookies. We do not track your usage of the application.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with any third party, except as described in Section 3 (Anthropic's API for AI features) and as required by law.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained locally on your device until you:

We have no access to your data and therefore cannot delete it on your behalf.

9. HIPAA Notice

Mend is a personal consumer application and is not a Covered Entity or Business Associate under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Mend is not intended for use by healthcare providers to store or transmit protected health information on behalf of patients. It is a personal organization tool for individual use.

10. Children's Privacy

Mend is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used this application in a way that raises privacy concerns, please contact us.

11. Medical Disclaimer

Mend is not a medical device, does not provide medical advice, and is not a substitute for professional medical care. Always follow your surgeon's specific instructions. In an emergency, call 911.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the application evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of Mend after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
